Tummy Tuck - Abdominoplasty

Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is the cosmetic surgery procedure to reshape and firm (tighten) the abdomen.
It involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by women (who are not considering having any more children) and individuals who have abdominal fat deposits which do not respond well to diet and exercise.

There are two broad varieties of abdominoplasty:

The Tummy Tuck is one of the oldest and most famous cosmetic surgery procedures.
However, each year we do less and less of this cosmetic procedure due to the increased benefit of Liposuction. Even with extremely inelastic skin and large volumes of fat, incredible results have been achieved using only vibro-liposculpture.
Sometimes, we are able to do a Liposculpture in combination with a Mini-Abdominoplasty with as good or better results than a full Tummy Tuck!

In spite of this, there are many patients who really do need a Tummy Tuck or Full Abdominoplasty.

Partial Abdominoplasty or Mini Abdominoplasty

The Mini Abdominoplasty is performed when the excess skin and body fat are situated beneath the navel (belly button).
This procedures requires only a small incision below the bikini-line and leaves no visible scars around the navel since this doesn't have to be repositioned.

Full Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck

The Tummy Tuck or Full Abdominoplasty is required when the excess skin and body fat are also situated in the upper abdomen region.
This procedure requires an incision usually extending from hip to hip, just above the pubic area. The muscles from the Abdominal wall are tightened and the skin is redraped over the abdomen. Any excess skin is removed and the navel (belly button) is repositioned.
